Am I a current MASN member?

The Madison Academic Staff Network “year” follows the academic year; which is to say an annual membership runs from September 1st, and ends on August 31st of the following year. Historically, the Network used to be able to deduct payroll dues but due to the “Collective Bargaining” changes of Act 10 in 2011 (details), this is no longer possible; currently employed UW Academic Staff must now choose to join dues-funded campus organizations like MASN each year.

Membership resets at the beginning of each September with the school year, so if you were a member last year, you’re probably now listed as a “former member” – but it’s easy to join again.

If you are currently employed at UW Madison, checking whether you are a MASN member is easy.

  1. Sign into UW Madison’s “Google Groups” at https://groups.wisc.edu
    • If Applicable, select your NetID/primary email address from the list that (may) appear. This happens if you have multiple email addresses linked to your NetID.
  2. You will now be on UW Madison’s custom Google Groups page. Simply type “masn-current” into the bar at the top of the page. If “masn-current” appears in the list of your groups as the screenshot below shows, then you are a current member!
    • Were you a former member? If you delete “masn-current” out of the search bar and type in “masn-former” instead, then that means that according to our records, you were a member of our organization at some point, but are not currently a member. We’d love for you to consider joining us again by renewing your membership!

If you are a retired Academic Staff employee of the UW, you may not have access to UW Google Groups anymore. Please just email us at wisconsinmasn@mailplus.wisc.edu and we can check to see if you are registered and give you more information.
