Summer flew by, MASN members! We were able to do an event, too – an ice cream-making tour at Babcock Dairy, that included some tastings; a perfect little trip for a hot summer. Now that things are cooling down, we’re beginning our new year with one of our well established main events; a breakfast buffet and short business meeting.

This year, we’re trying a new spot – the “new” Ogg building (some of us who were undergrads lived at the old/original Ogg Hall across the street, now the site of the current Gordon Dining Hall) had a nice looking lounge in it, so in MASN’s long-time tradition of visiting new areas of campus, we’re trying that out. Please find the RSVP email information in your inboxes with the Google Form link, and plan to join us for breakfast and a brief meeting on October 7th, from 8:30-10am at Phillips Lounge at 835 W. Dayton St.
MASN members, both retired Lifetime members, and folks who signed up for 2025-2026 as part of the Spring Luncheon back in May, already got the invite in their inboxes. Please RSVP soon, because UW Housing Catering wants a headcount by September 23. Not sure if you’re a current or former member? Check here, and if you’re not a member and want to join us, follow the instructions here to join online! Former MASN members who haven’t renewed yet are welcome to attend too; we just ask for the $15 membership dues at the door via cash, check, or credit card.
Regarding the brief meeting’s light agenda – we’re looking for a MASN member, either retired from the UW or currently employed, to volunteer fill the role of President-Elect! This is a 3 year term defined in our bylaws that spends one year as President-Elect, then automatically becomes the President in the next year, and then the Past-President in the final year. This allows us to keep the org’s “institutional knowledge” afloat and helps the newcomer to each role be assisted by the predecessor. Please feel free to nominate yourself either by writing us at wisconsinmasn@mailplus.wisc.edu or at the breakfast meeting. If you have questions about the role and aren’t ready to nominate yourself quite yet – again, just ask us anything you want to know!
Secondly, bring ideas for places you’d like to visit on campus, or Academic Staff issues you’d like us to research for this year! MASN exists to help connect staff together and learn more about the UW as a whole – we’re always hoping we can be more relevant to what you want to see out of us!
See you on October 7th,
The MASN executive board volunteers
