MASA Hidden Treasures Tour: The Carillon Tower

1160 Observatory Drive
Snacks will be served.
University carillonneur Lyle Anderson will lead the MASA members and academic staff mentors and mentees on a tour of the Carillon Tower.
Designed by Arthur Peabody, the UW-Madison carillon was originally dedicated in 1936 with 25 bells. Additions and replacements resulted in the current configuration of 56 bells ranging in size from 15 to 6,823 pounds. Although new bells have been added over the years and the playing console has changed, this remains one of the most distinctive features of the Madison campus.
The UW-Madison Carillon Tower is one of three in Wisconsin, the others being at Marquette University in Milwaukee and First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Green Bay.
