Welcome ASI members + April/May events

Happy spring, MASN members! The UW’s official Academic Staff Institute was a couple weeks ago, offering staff participants a chance to select and attend a series of breakout sessions on a variety of topics from HR and benefit related to a presentation about our excellent arboretum, which MASN visited last fall. Attendees also received a complimentary membership to MASN for the rest of our calendar year (til the end of August) so if any new members are reading this – welcome, and we hope you’ll consider joining us for the 2024-2025 year as well!

Events coming up – have you ever wondered about the big tower in front of the Social Sciences Building? Heard it play music before? Wonder no further because on April 26 MASN’s own Lyle Anderson will be offering a tour and musical interlude to MASN attendees. For safety and capacity purposes registration will be required – members, keep an eye out for an email from our president with sign-up details. If you’re a member (not sure? click here) and not receiving our emails, just contact us!

And secondly, May 23rd is the date of our annual Spring Luncheon. This year’s speaker is Kacie Lucchini Butcher, Director of the Center for Campus History. Registration for the lunch at the Memorial Union will also be required, and the same email to members will have further details.

Some pictures from the Helen Louise Allen Textile Collection we toured earlier this month. It was great to get an inside look both at at the current exhibition (Remaking the Renaissance) from Dr. Sophie Pitman the Research Director, and the behind-the-scenes organization and how the items are used in teaching from Collections Manager Carolyn Jenkinson.
